Selecting a PPD File
A second dialog will open to allow further settings to be adjusted, such as selecting the
PPD (Postscript Printer Descriptions) file. Selecting the proper PPD file is CRITICAL to
having FastRIP
TM
run properly. The PPD file tells the RIP exactly how to print, what
calibration files to use, the size of the printing dot and all the other things that allow
FastRIP
TM
to function properly. To configure FastRIP
TM
to use the proper PPD file, click
the Change button in the PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file window. PPD files are
on your Macintosh HD in the System Folder>Extensions Folder>Printer Descriptions.
There will be a number of PPD files in this folder - many of which were placed there by
the MAC Operating System.
Select the printer to which FastRIP
TM
will be sending
raster data (Epson Color Stylus 4000, 4800, 7800,
9800 etc.). Press the Select button when done. The
Default Target Application window should already be
set to FastRIP.
Once these settings have been entered, the desktop printer may be saved by selecting
Save under the File menu. You will be asked to Save desktop printer as: Enter the
name of FastRIP Epson(on a MAC, this name is any name you choose and it is not
case sensitive). Make sure you are saving this printer to your Desktop.
A desktop printer has now been created that will allow
print jobs to be sent directly to FastRIP
TM
from within an
application. To select this printer, go to your Desktop or
Apple menu>Chooser. In the Chooser select FastRIP
LW 8.7 and close the Chooser.
Note: The Chooser will not show the under Select a
PostScript Printer.
